Military tents are highly resilient, four season tents. They are crafted to the highest standard to stand up in all conditions. Traditionally, military tents were used by soldiers as shelter in various conditions. There are a few distinct features that make military tents stand out on the market: sloped roofs, heavy-duty canvas, neutral or camouflage colors, and weather-resistant features.
Military Canvas Tents
Military tents for camping are a popular choice due to their unmatched durability, and ease of setup and teardown.
Best Features of Military Tents for Camping
- Our military tents are made with heavy-duty canvas which naturally insulates and protects against harsh weather.
- Our all four season tents come in a range of neutral, earth-toned colors. These offer a low-profile, slightly camouflaged look outdoors.
- Waterproofed canvas enhances extreme weather resistance and insulation.
- Galvanized steel poles and aluminum frames are extremely strong, weather-resistant, and lightweight.
- Storm door layers keep snow and rain from accumulating against the actual doors of your tent, which causes cold air.
- Our proprietary shock-absorbing grounding system ensures that your tent won’t budge once it’s been pitched. Each design includes all the stakes and guylines you’ll need for a lasting pitch.
- A rainfly, ground tarps, and protective skirting around the base of the tent keep precipitation, cold air, and moisture from ruining your trip! Stay cozy, warm, and dry inside without the stress of leaks.
- Built-in stove jacks allow campers to use a tent stove safely, simultaneously warming their tent and providing a space to cook.
- Military-grade zippers and double-stitched seams throughout the tent prevent even the sneakiest leaks and drafts.
- Our tents include large doors and windows– with storm-proof roll-up canvas covers– and roof vents for ventilation.
- No-see-em Mesh on all openings offers privacy and keeps critters and weather out while letting cool fresh air in.
- Sloped roofs are a distinct feature of most traditional military tents. This is essential for camping in cold weather, especially, so that rain and snow can sluff off the sides, preventing damage and leaks.
There is a reason military surplus tents and military tents for camping are a top choice among avid outdoors people: they truly stand up to the test of time and the elements.
If you’re planning on extreme, off-season camping and want something that will last you for years to come, a military canvas tent is a great choice. These are intended to withstand the harshest of conditions– both heat and cold– year-round. At White Duck Outdoors, our industry-leading 100% army duck cotton canvas is treated with waterproofing and a UV, mold, and mildew-resistant finish– making it the most ideal material for a 4 season tent.
Rain, wind, snow, hail– designed to be supported by either galvanized steel poles or aluminum frames, our extreme cold weather military tents are sturdy as can be. A proprietary shock-absorbing grounding system adds the extra support and tension needed to keep your tent and all your gear safe and sound in high winds.
Traditionally, soldiers needed to be able to set up and tear down their tents at a moment’s notice. A military-style tent for camping follows the same principle. At White Duck, we prioritize spending as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors, rather than fussing over poles and stakes.
Each of our unique tent designs comes with a step-by-step instructional guide, as well as a tool kit complete with everything campers need for an efficient and successful launch to their tent. Each design also includes downloadable digital instructions and a video guide. Campers will find a complete tool kit included in their purchase of a military canvas tent. This has everything needed from guylines to stakes and even a mallet.
Many military-style tents come in the form of a pop-up or cabin style. Small military tents– like a ‘scout’ tent– have a compact design with a sloped roof, suitable for one or two folks. Other large military tents are meant to accommodate groups of many people, gear, and the occasional pet companion. These larger tents are excellent for hosting hunting or fishing groups, and other various outdoor excursions or glamping experiences.
Comfort and LuxuryCampers may be used to roughing it here and there, but our four-season military tent offers enhanced features and functionality that instantly boost luxury and comfort. 100% army duck cotton canvas is made up of tightly knit fibers that trap heat inside. Its exterior waterproof coating and UV finish add an extra layer of protection against the cold and damp outdoors.
High ceilings, roof vents, and large windows and doors with tinted mesh offer privacy and protection while allowing constant fresh airflow. This means campers can say goodbye to stuffy nights in a tent full of people, gear, and furry companions!
A built-in stove jack is the ultimate detail that instantly elevates a military tent. With this, campers are allowed the option to safely install and use a tent stove. Whether it’s wood-burning or propane, a tent stove radiates heat throughout the tent, while the stove jack acts as a funnel to safely escort toxic fumes and smoke outside the tent. Our tent stoves also include a warming cooktop and a water tank so campers can nourish themselves and warm up from the inside and out! The warm, nostalgic glow of a tent stove always creates an inviting, warm ambiance no matter the weather outside. Camp in style and ultimate comfort in a White Duck tent!
Military Tents vs Survival Tents
A military tent may sometimes be referred to as a ‘survival tent’. While similar in many ways, these are two different pieces of equipment. The key technical difference between them is that a true emergency survival tent is meant to be extremely lightweight, self-sufficient (meaning no detached gear like a rainfly), and portable. Military tents– and camping tents marketed as such– tend to have a bit more bulk and extra pieces. It is highly recommended to have a survival tent in case of an emergency, especially for those camping in extreme weather.
